OBIEE PERFORMANCE APPROACH

Performance Considerations for OBIEE / Siebel Analytics:

1: Good Data Model Design on Star schema
2: NO Global Consistency Errors and Warnings
3: Metadata Repository size to be Reduced to the possible Extent b y removing the unused Objects
( tables, views, Aliases, synonyms, system Tables, Keys, Fk Keys) Init blocks and Variables
4: Best Practise and correct settings for the parameters in each section of the NQSConfig.ini
5: Applying Database hints ( use_nl, Oracle hints) for a table in the Physical layer of the Repository.
6: Reduce the SELECT statements executes by the OBIEE Server, and it chooses the correct MES.
7: Limit the generation of lengthy physical SQL queries by Modeling dimension hierarchies (Hierarchy ( Drill Key and Level Key))
8: The number of rows or record set returned from the Database can be restricted by putting the WHERE clause in the sources of the table.
9: Using Aggregate Navigation functionality of OBIEE and also design a good aggregation strategy for the Project.
10: Disable or remove the unused initialization blocks and also reduce the number of init blocks in the Repository
11: set the correct and recommended log level in the Production, setting the Query Limits and turn off logging
12: connection Pools, shared logon and number of connection pools Maximum connections and FIFO.
13: explore the features in the database properties of the repository, and push the complex functions to be performed at the database side.
14: Modeling ur Meta data using the materialized views in Physical layer
15: Good Caching and Purging strategy, Web server cache and Siebel Analytic Server Cache) and use of the Event Polling tables for the Project.
16: SQL Performance tuning for the Physical SQL generated by the Siebel analytics Server

Siebel Analytics Answers Erros out ORA-03113

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel errors in Siebel Answers

Running a Request in Siebel Answers gives Oracle Error.

1: Select Few columns from opportunity, position dimension and Revenue Fact in siebel Answers, when we ran the Request it gives Odbc Erros saying ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel errors.

2: when we Take the Physical SQL from the log file and Ran the same query in toad, here too it gave the same Error.

3: when we checked with the DBA it was giving an Oracle Internal Error "Core dump"

4: After debugging the SQL in Toad with Trial and error method, came to conclusion that the 2 conditions used for a column in opty DX was causing the Error.
ie( Column with " IS NOT NULL" AND "<>'N' " for an attribute.

5: when we removed any of the condition the SQL runs fine in Toad, then after further analysis , by adding the same attribute which has the same two conditions in the select list ,
the issue got resolved in Oracle Toad as well as in Siebel Analytics Answers.

The Siebel Analytics attempts to execute query using the W_INS_CLAIM_F table by default.

How to remove the Default Join Path from LTS:

i): By Default when Employee name is selected the join path traverse to insurance fact ratter than expected Join Path.

ii): This Issue Arises when we have both the horizontal and vertical in the siebel analytics RPD.

iii): The requirement was to Get the name of the Sales Rep based on the Login from employee and their associated territory.

iv): This has been fixed by removing the reference in the Insurance Source of the FACTS (W_INS_CLAIM_F) table in the content tab of the LTS to the Horizontal dimensions so that it will choose the most economical sources as what is expected.

v): Employee and opportunity Relation is Many to many between these two. so the relation goes like the parent held position id in s_contact and row_id in the s_opty tables to the Intersection table of S_opty_postn through the Opty_id and Position_id).

Oracle BIEE Apps 7.9.4 Install & Configuration Hands on Expereince on Erros Encountered & resolution

Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Installation and Configuration Hands on:

*******************************************************************************************************************

1: Install JAVA SDK 1.5 or higgher

2: Install Oracle Business Intelligence Platform

3: Install Oracle Business Intelligence Applications

4: Process of Copying Hibernate Libraries

Please do the following to obtain Hibernate Core 3.2.2 GA:

--> Navigate to 'www.hibernate.org' website

--> In the search field on the top right hand corner of the page, type 3.2.2

--> You will get 5 hits for the search result. Click on 'Hibernate' link on item 3

--> Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see the following:

"3.01.2007 - Hibernate Core 3.2.2.GA

Hibernate Core 3.2.2.GA has just been released. See the changelog for details."

--> Click on the ' 3.2.2.GA' link

You should be able to download Hibernate Core 3.2.2 GA from here.

5: Extract All Jar files and "dtd" files from Hibernate folder and copy the Jar files to DAC\Lib folder and Coyp *.dtd files into DAC root folder.

6: DAC IS NO LONGER PART OF THE ANALYTICS PLATFORM FROM OBIEE 10.1.3.2 ONWARDS DAC is now a part of the OBIEE Applications release (current release is version 7.9).

you will only get the DAC installer with the OBIEE Application installer.

7: Insatll Informatica POwercenter 7.1.4 and configure Informatica server and Respository Server

8: Create DWH Tables and Triggers from DAC to Database.

9: Try a Complete Dry Run to load all the see data from the CSV to the target tables.

*******************************************************************************************************************

Parameters used by Informatica workflows/sessions are fed to Informatica using a different architecture in 7.9.0, and

the extra configuration steps to get this new Parameterization functionality to work are not documented

In 7.9, while executing ETL, DAC

1. Reads & evaluates parameters from all static parameter files in the input directory

2. Reads & evaluates all parameters in DAC UI

3. Creates a file with evaluated name-value pairs for all parameters (in static files + DAC UI).

a. DAC creates one parameter file per informatica session. All parameter files created by DAC will be named <..Txt>.

4. Copies the file into a location configured under the “DAC setup>InformaticaParameterFileLocation” property. The default location for this property is <\DAC\Informatica\parameters>.

These parameter files contain all parameters - static (from files), and dynamic (from DAC UI) with properly evaluated values.

Here are the extra configuration steps

(1)Informatica Server Variable > $PMSourceFileDir must be set exactly the same as the DAC System Properties > InformaticaParamatereFileLocation as follows:

C:\oracleBI\DAC\Informatica\parameters (NB***no spaces in folder name****):

(a)Informatica Server Variable > $PMSourceFileDir

(b) DAC System Properties > InformaticaParameterFileLocation

Both Informatica and DAC must be able to access the folder specified above..

This could be important where components are distributed across several machines , also for unix user folder access

(2) Copy all files from OracleBI\dwrep\bin\Informatica\LkpFiles

eg domainValues_Emp_EventType....xls

to the location specified in $PMSourceFilesDir AND specified in DAC System Properties > InformaticaParameterFileLocation (should be identical location)

*******************************************************************************************************************

The Relational Connection settings in the Informatica Workflow Manager need to be set the same (including Case Sensitivity) as those used when configuring the 'DAC > Setup > Physical Data Sources'.

*******************************************************************************************************************

Errors Encountered during this complete Process:

1: TM_6193

2: VAR_21705

3: pmrep Connect Error

4: pmrep Connect Exception

5: comman line Stack Trace in DAC

6: Database Driver Errors

7: JDBC Error while connecting to data sources from DAC

8: Oracle OCI 8 driver not Avalible
